William Davies
Introduction
We are increasingly becoming aware of the importance of mindfulness within psychotherapeutic practice whether it is through approaches that work with mindfulness as an explicit tool such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectal Behaviour Therapy (DBT) or whether it is more implicitly approached within an integrative framework for both client and therapist as a route to awareness and compassion.
This two day course will cover the background to mindfulness in therapy, exploring specific challenges therapists face in mindfulness-based work & tensions when integrating mindfulness with other approaches.
The weekend will largely focus on the ACT model to illuminate the use of mindfulness in psychotherapy, with DBT skills training also being referenced to highlight a different approach.
The course is aimed at leaving you with an array of ideas, approaches and interventions to incorporate and enhance your client work that you can begin to integrate into your work immediately, regardless of modality.
Topics included in this workshop include:
- Definitions of mindfulness and its use in psychotherapeutic practice (as well as understanding misconceptions).
- The foundations of the ACT model.
- Setting behavioural goals with clients.
- Understanding the role of creative hopelessness
- Interventions to support psychlogical flexibility.
- The ACT model in practice.
- Mindfulness in DBT.
- Skills training in DBT.
In-Person Training
This is an experiential workshop where you will have opportunities to practice interventions and approaches in a safe and supported environment.
Numbers will be restricted to 16 participants in order to allow appropriate interaction, practice of the techniques and in-depth discussion and reflection.
