Your Path From Hypnotherapist to UKCP Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor or Psychotherapist
Relational, Outcome-Oriented and Pluralistic Training in Hypno-psychotherapy, Hypno-psychotherapeutic Counselling and Integrative Psychotherapy and Psychotherapeutic Counselling
Course Overview
If you have trained as a hypnotherapist and want to add more depth to your work, extend your scope of practice or continue your learning, this is the course for you.
We are the only course in the UK that offers a pathway designed explicitly for hypnotherapists to extend their learning and integrate new knowledge into their existing practice, working towards UKCP accreditation.
If you want to qualify as either a psychotherapeutic counsellor or psychotherapist who can meet each client as an individual, with flexibility, creativity, and depth, this pathway offers precisely that.
Depending on whether you want to train as a psychotherapeutic counsellor or psychotherapist, our training is aligned with columns B and C of the SCoPEd framework, and it’s built on the belief that no single model can serve every client.
You’ll learn within a pluralistic framework, structured enough to give you confidence, yet expansive enough to draw on humanistic, psychodynamic, behavioural and third-wave approaches.

What This Means for You
- We are relational at the core: you’ll learn how to build genuine connections, placing the therapeutic relationship in all of its forms at the centre of your work.
-
We are focused on your growth: we’ll help you discover your strengths, work on your growth edges, and shape your own authentic style as a therapist.
- Training is outcome-oriented: while we hold great respect for all therapeutic orientations, we begin with the client’s desired outcome rather than adhering to a single theoretical tradition.
-
You will gain many tools, all aimed at one purpose: training in a wide range of theoretical approaches. As a result, you will be able to work with the whole person, rather than just the issue they present.
We’ll help you integrate time-honoured traditions with contemporary, evidence-based methods, as well as drawing on your client’s own individual methods of healing.
You will graduate with the skills, insight, cultural humility and professional recognition to work effectively across the full spectrum of therapeutic needs.
Pre-Requisites
- A first (undergraduate) degree or above, or an equivalent professional qualification
- A HPD-level hypnotherapy qualification (the stage of entry to training you may be offered will depend on experience)
- Good communication skills
- To be 21 years or over when you start the course
- The ability to study at academic level seven, including reading, writing, and reflective thinking
- Good spoken and written English: see our English language skills requirement if English is not your first language
We also value relevant life and professional experience, so please do speak to us, and we can discuss whether this would be the best route for you.
If you would like to speak with us before formally applying, please schedule a call, and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have at this time.
Once you have applied, you will be invited to an interview via Zoom.
The interview will last approximately 45 minutes and focus on determining whether our approach is a good fit for you and your career goals.
We also want to learn more about you, your background, and experience, and to discuss some aspects of the training with you so that you can understand what to expect from us and the training.
Our Training Principles
Everything we teach on the pathway is rooted in these principles:
-
The relationship comes first: it’s the single most significant factor influencing therapeutic outcomes. The relationship takes many forms and varies for each client.
-
Different things work for different people: flexibility is key.
-
Hypnosis is a natural human state: one that can unlock creativity, insight, and growth.
Our approach prioritises both theoretical depth and experiential training with equal importance.
We have designed our training to allow for structured theoretical learning that can be paced to suit you, while also maximising the benefits of our live training through discussion, experiential work, and practice-based activities.
We don’t rely on scripts, manuals, or prescriptive techniques, instead we focus on:
- Your voice;
- Your style;
- Your ability to adapt.
In our training, we teach you more than how to ‘do’ therapy, we teach you how to become a therapist within a creative, supportive and collegiate atmosphere that puts you at the centre of what we do.
Our core tutors have all made the journey that you are undertaking and are there to help you get the most out of your training. Our teaching style is not hierarchical; we recognise that you bring a wealth of lived experience into the training environment.
We draw on all of this, as well as our theoretical and clinical experience, to create safe, diverse and lively training environments.
The Stages You Will Study
On this pathway, you study a combination of modules, usually from Stages 2 and 3, followed by Stage 4, which is required to complete our full UKCP pathway.
The complete training usually takes between three and a maximum of seven years to complete. The aspects of the training that you will need to undertake will depend on your existing qualifications and experience in practice, as well as your alignment, which will be explored during the interview.
The stages you will study will be a combination of:
- Stage 2 – Integration and Therapeutic Flexibility;
- Stage 3 – Advanced Integration, Pluralism and Relational Depth;
- Stage 4 – Advanced Clinical Practice and Accreditation.
Each stage builds on the previous one, and there are certifications after Stages 2, 3 and 4.
How You Are Assessed
In order to get the most out of your training, assessment comes in many forms and is designed to support your development at each stage as appropriate.
Assessment includes:
-
Continuous ongoing assessment;
-
Reflexive projects;
-
Case study work;
-
Theoretical essays;
-
Practical assessment;
-
Single and group presentations;
-
Group campaign building;
-
A final viva-based assessment.
You can learn more about specific assessments by exploring each stage of the pathway.
Supervised Practice
One of the most critical aspects of your training is supervised clinical practice. Although you will have experienced supervision before as a hypnotherapist, this is where you will have time with an experienced psychotherapist who has undergone further training to be recognised by the UKCP as a clinical supervisor to discuss your work with clients.
This is a place for you to learn and grow in your clinical work, and to share your work in a safe and supported environment, ensuring your personal and professional development, as well as ethical and safe practice.
You will experience supervision at different points during training:
Stage 2:
- For your case study work
Supervision during Stage 2 is provided in groups of up to 4 and is included in your fees.
Stages 3 and 4:
- After qualification from those Stage 2 assessments required for this pathway, you will begin to count your clinical hours towards UKCP accreditation whilst continuing with your learning;
- At this point, we will support you in finding a supervisor and encourage you to gain a mixture of group and one-to-one supervision to ensure you are getting the very most from this valuable experience.
- Supervision during stages 3 and 4 is not included in course fees.
CNHC and UKCP Registration: Trusted, Recognised, Respected
Throughout the whole pathway, you will receive three different certifications:
