Work More Confidently and Effectively with Your LGBT+ Clients and Their Challenges

Working with LGBT+ Clients The National College of Hypnosis & Psychotherapy

Dr Alan M Greaves

Head of the Academic Board for NCHP. Course Leader - Working with LGBT+ Clients

Introduction

Repeated studies have shown that lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people have higher incidences of mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression than other population groups.

This weekend training course allows therapists in practice the opportunity to explore and discuss issues that might affect their LGBT+ clients and their experience of living in societies that have historically (and often still do) discriminate on the grounds of their sexuality and/or gender identity.

The Themes Covered in This Course Are:

  • Terminology
  • Mental health within the LGBT+ community
  • Why are people gay? and does it matter?
  • Homophobia in society
  • Internalised homophobia
  • Homoerotophobia
  • Gay culture(s)
  • Causes of anxiety
  • Causes of depression
  • The anxiety-depression nexus
  • Sexual health and mental health: the importance of self-esteem
  • Working with trans clients
  • Intersecting identities: faith, culture and disability

The Benefits
